Some useful information about powerflushing

Power flushing or jet flushing if done correctly does not damage your heating system. It does not use excessive pressure in fact our Kamco Pumps do not exceed 1 Bar operating pressure. This is well within the design pressure of a heating system. Instead it works by increasing the flow rate of water & cleaning chemicals, this picks up the unwanted loose particles and carries them in suspension to be removed.

Power flushing does not cause leaks. The process of power flushing will, if done correctly loosen and remove debris, sludge etc from inside your entire system.  One of the reasons for your system being affected by sludge is corrosion. This is in the form of rust particles falling into the system water, building up over time and forming a sludge deposit. A major cause of corrosion is air entering the system increasing oxygen levels in the water, which helps oxidisation or corrosion. Air can enter your system if you have leaks or a poorly designed system. Sometimes these leaks can self-seal if very small, they do this by sludge blocking the leak. Because power flushing removes sludge it will also uncover any leaky valves that should be replaced.

If you have a maintenance contract with a large company e.g. British Gas, they may have insisted you have your system powerflushed. Firstly we are happy to do this work for you and issue you with a certificate confirming the work has been done to the relevant British Standard. We will do this work for you for a fixed fee that will be quoted to you in advance. We usually save our customers around 40% compared to British gas. We also use our own trained staff, absolutely no sub-contractors.

We are aware some companies are trying to sell customers unnecessary items at the time of the power flush. For example Magnetic filters (Magnaclean). These filters catch sludge particles and can be emptied fairly easily by a competent DIY er. However if your system is power flushed correctly you should have no need for such an item because there should be no sludge left. If after a power flush you can still get sludge out your system then you ought to demand a refund for the power flush. We will quite happily fit these items to a system instead of a power flush but it should be noted they only collect loose particles and do not clean your system. Don't expect to resolve the same problems that a power flush can do. British Gas charge £350 to fit one of these we charge £200. They will do it for an extra £100 if you have it fitted with a power flush. But what’s the point?
